Using a Temperature Scale
When we first were building scales like this in in 17 forty two, quite a lot was up for grabs. And now they had all these arguments about what exactly constitutes freezing or boiling. The centre of the great pyramids were sometimes given as as an idea of being something very cold that you could base your scale on. So to day, i think we take weather data almost for granted. We're told it's the hottest day on record, or the wettest or the coldest ot ever. But those are really just to do with a human understanding of the world.
