The Importance of Grounting in Babies

In a baby, FRC and closing capacity are much closer together than they are in an adult. People with muscular just to be spinal muscular atrophy don't develop strong chest walls or chest walls are more compliant. So for the same reason, their FRC is naturally lower than you or I who do not have a muscular problem. Our brain and our brain stem responds to CO2 changes. And when it detects a higher CO2, it will breathe harder and faster. But oxygen doesn't do the same thing. When you grunt, your body is trying to ventilate, and oxygenation just happens as a byproduct.
