The Real in Poetry
I hadn't been to church in 20 years. I went a long time without being able to write a poem or write anything. One day my wife was walking out the door and I said, where are you going? I'm going to church. And so we went to this little church down the corner just because it was down the corner. And I came home and wrote this poem after three years of silence. It's called every ribbon thing. Riven means broken open, torn open. God goes belonging to every ribbon thing he's made. Sing his being simply by being the thing it is. A part from what man knows. Belonging to every ribbon things he's made means
