The Ohio Players broke out in 1973 with Funky Worm, a number one R&B number 15 pop hit. Their sound included jazz, soul, gospel, rock, folk, Afrobeat, and yes, disco. Even when their music was smooth or slick, it was still funky. And you might say, elemental, earthy, windy, fiery.
