Genesis 1 is a highly symbolic account that is interacting with Babylonian myth. The sun and the moon are not even named. They're not given names because these were gods in the Babylonian pantheon, he says. There's nothing special about them. they were appointed simply by the one true God to rule over the night and the day,. so to speak.
