Christianity Embraces Empire

I sometimes wonder, like, with John, specifically, John was either written right around the time or a bit after Jerusalem was sacked by the Romans. And so a lot of what you see happening in John is an attempt to sanitize Jesus to be less dangerous. So I almost wonder if that... this is one of the first times Christianity embraces empire to survive and to thrive. It was certainly a gamble that played off. That cuts deep.
