The Discourse of Exclusion
To exclude someone, like if you cast them out of your society, is a sign of a broader set of strategies of power that are meant to do many things. Foucault thinks that Levis Trous's distinction is useful, but it is only scratching the surface here of understanding how these mechanisms work. To cast someone out of a society does more than just casting someone out. It confirms the existence of an inside versus an outside where the outside is the place where the vagrant, the criminal, has now been cast to.
