The Story of King Richard the Lion Heart
The story comes from a middle english poem with the ironically french title, richard cour de leon. It was written some time around the early fourteenth century and acted as a type of official fake history of king richard. The poem is filled with wild exaggerations and straight up fantasy but it's also a key text when understanding the evolution of the richard the lion heart myth. i completely missed it back in season three when i was originally researching those episodes. I felt like this was a nearly unforgivable oversight. Not only could i have given my listeners a better insight into how the legend of richard came to be, but i denied them a truly amazing story.
