Donation After Circulatory Death
Donation after circulatory death or DCD is when families decide to withdraw life sustaining therapies prior to the declaration of brain death. Potential donors receive same end of life care for medical staff, just like any other patient. The only difference is that the withdrawal scenario is in a much more controlled environment so that the donor can be taken to organ recovery within minutes after passing away.
