I've got this book out which I'll be talking more about in September called turning points in modern Britain. One of the turning points that have endured are the kind of social liberal reforms that Roy Jenkins and others introduced in the mid to late 60s. Not only have they endured they've been developed since gay marriage which this lot introduced. And so I think in the end this sort of playing to a kind of 1950s social conservatism yes it resonates to some extent but I don't think to a wide enough electorate and it divides the Tory party because there are a lot of Tory liberals including by the way Johnson in the party as well.
