Redding's performance at the Whiskey a Go Go was his first real interaction with the white rock scene. The three-day residency got rave reviews, though plans to release a live album of the shows were scuppered when Jim Stewart listened back to the tapes and decided that Redding's home players were often out of tune. Taj Mahal said it was one of the most amazing performances he'd ever seen.
