Theory & Philosophy

The Birth of Ethnology
Derrida says that for any kind of productive critique to be mounted, we would have to do away with the sign altogether. Derrida casts a suspicious eye asking whether or not that is really the case if it continually re-inscribes the split between the urocentric Cartesian figure and the quote unquote other. We see this quite prominently in the kind of ethnology present in Levi's Strauss where he tries to understand the split once assumed between nature and culture.
