Greek Tragedy for Girard Is Too Sided
Greek Tragedy for Girard is too sided. It has its sacrificial, reconciliatory side which makes us want to stick to what the chorus in the back eye calls the customary beaten path of those who walk with reverence and awe beneath the sons of heaven. We know that Plato couldn't stand them. And the idea that Plato was against poetry, in the sense of 19th century romanticism is just crazy. He says, these things are too ugly. Let's hide them. Let's not talk about them. If we have to talk about them, we must have a big sacrifice at the same time. That's his greatest work.
