Is There a Crossover Between Immersive and Gaming?

There's been a massive resurgence of role playing games, thanks to the phenomenon of live plays on twitch. This has been spear headed by shows like critical role, which you can see billboards for all around town. Now, more than ever, being a table top gamer is a life style as much as it is a hobby. Is there a big cross over between the kinds of folks in our world, the immersive, and the folks in this growing life style scene? I think so. But i don't know if that always carries over to gaming, because there seems to be this gatekeeper mentality.
