The Importance of Freudian Education
James Mill is not regarded very kindly in history, generally, I don't think. And there's plenty of evidence to suggest that John had properly Freudian issues with him. He was a harsh schoolmaster, but at least he saw his father, which was quite unusual. The alternative, for instance, if he'd gone to Wheaton, he would have been getting hit with a cane on a weekly basis at the very least.
