The Chinese will be able to land some forces onto Taiwan, although Taiwan hopes to destroy them in the literal sea and on the beachheads. The task then will be to try and cut off the supply lines of that amphibious force so that it loses power and can no longer keep going. And there are several questions in a war: Will the Taiwanese fight as hard to repellent invasion as the Ukrainians are fighting against Russia? Unless the Taiwanese resist, everything else is futile. But they can't do it on their own. They need the Americans to intervene to hold back the Chinese and the Americans in turn need their allies to help.
