Porter Primers

The porters are critical to what i call the goidevive of montreal. Here you had a black city, and here you have a sort of isolated, bifercated community. Jaz was an expression of much of what the black experience was that didn't happen on its own. And having spaces that belonged to black people made it easier for the jaz musician to develop.
