Is Social Security an Anti-Poverty Program?
When Social Security was created in the 1930s, poverty among the elderly population was quite high. For about half of Americans, it's going to be the only source of income. People describe it as an anti-poverty program, which is kind of true and a little bit not. The poverty rate just ticked up last year among seniors for first time in many years.
