Plasma foresis is used to treat many different types of conditions. In Collette's case, doctors believed the treatment would lower her antibodies and force her body into accepting new organs. The treatments were able to bring down her antibodies but when she went in for surgery, the doctors realized that the tissues weren't compatible.
