The army of the West was organized to be self-sufficient. It could operate without rail supplies, what I'm trying to say. They didn't stop and say, Hardy is coming. We've got to wait for him. Or John Bell, they did one time and they regretted it. The idea that you have a great flanking army that is self equipped... Napoleon could do that on occasion. But that didn't come in really until... So Sherman did it.
