The History of Homeowners Associations

In the late 1800s and early 20th century, developers started to say they could make property more valuable if they restricted how it was used. They did all kinds of really detailed bans on certain types of people. The Supreme Court outlawed those restrictions in 1948. But for a long time, you know, the segregated housing patterns in many cities around the United States were created by homeowners associations.
