The Evolution of the Four Year Block System of Variety

In the early 70s you start to see these quadrennial plans being spoken of about 68 to 73. Almost all the planning and the training and the Soviet and Eastern block system was in four year blobs. A lot of it was because they started seeing guys getting injured that were training too specific too often. The only way to maintain high elite master level volumes with the least amount of mileage is to rotate the mode in which you train. If I do the same thing over and over again, constantly, it's the fastest way to get better. But it's also the fastest ways to plateau and create injuries.
