Famine may have been the foundation stone of modern ireland, but perhaps we could say that the 19 twenties and the formation of the free states drew a line in the sand. Immigration has remained central to irish life in ways that is just not found in other comparable count tries. Indeed, discussions around the housing crisis in the country at the moment has seen immigration again raised in some quarters as a possible solution. So does the great hunger? I'm black forty seven matter in irish society today.
