DNS simple was one of the first to do automatic SSLs and weird alias DNS records. Now they're a subscription based service so you can't even go and hunt to see how much their domains cost. You pay like $30 a month and then you get a whole bunch of extra features. If you wanted people to register domain names via an app, don't ever do that.
In this Hasty Treat, Scott and Wes talk about where you should register a domain name, explain DNS, and the process for moving a domain from one registrar to another.
