For the longest time, it was pretty straightforward. If you want to be considered for an academy award, your film needs to be in theatres. But when net flicks started getting in to producing their own movies, they ran into a wall. Early on, it was basically, sorry, net flick. You're a streaming service. You're not eligible yet. What's really interesting is, so the business model for streaming doesn't really have that type of vested interest in making the theatrical experience and propping up that type of industry.
