Is It Matter of Their Independence?
GDP figures have come out slightly better than analysts predicted. Some pundits say it means the chance has got more money to spend. But he says this myth is a function of how statisticians feel two days before budget. The government, even if it thinks in some bizarre way that having a lower deficit or whatever gives it more quote unquote scope to press its keys on the keypad, must spend it on the right thing. Like rewarding health service workers, not nuclear submarines.
