The idea that you would go out into the world and spend calories and energy in order to turn out to be wrong is something that children very characteristically do. And another aspect of what children are doing that I think would be informative for thinking about intelligence in general is that children are cultural learners. So one of the effects of this life history for human beings in particular is that it gives us this capacity for cultural ratcheting. It gives us a way of balancing innovation and imitation. All we did as a result of cultural learning was imitate exactly the things that the previous generation had done.
