Learning Through Negative Refining
Worrying is kind of like planning on steroids minus the useful part where we start to worry. That's enough of a reward that it feeds back and says, Hey, next time you're in a anxious, you should worry. And then, you know, you'll feel better. So this was actually discovered or hypothesized back in the 1980s by Thomas Borkabek. He suggested that worry could be reinforced in this using the same mechanism as any other negatively reinforced behavior. But I never learned this in residency or in medical school. You know, all so this mechanism really hasn't been talked about a whole lot. This is an app that anybody can use."
