Douglas's Story Telling Ability
Douglas was able to connect his own story to theirs. He helped northerners see slavery less as a distant issue happening far away and more as something that was, you know, happening right in their back yard in the south. His breakthrough moment came in august of 18 forty one douglas spoke at an anti slavery convention in nantucket, massachusetts. A prominent and influential abolitionist was also in attendance, a journalist and publisher by the name of william lloyd garrison. Garrison described his experience hearing douglas speak like this: "i shall never forget his first speech at the convention"
