How I Built a Wind Turbine for My Family Farm

I was able to measure that on a windy day, this little rotor could produce significantly more electricity than what we used on the farm. Based on that, I said, couldn't I build a turbine that should power the whole farm, even when it was not that windy? That's what I did. We bought a lathe so that I could turn the shaft and so on at the junkyard. It cost us at that time 15 cents a kilo. In 78 we were able to install the turbine, and it ran for 13 years.
