The Importance of Diversity in Universities
Diversities are a useful word because it can mean something different. It's not clear to me that things like the amount of melanin you have in your skin or the shape of your sex organs plays any kind of role in gaining a benefit there. The kinds of cases that you've given where it might matter seem very narrow. And I think if there were evidence that getting students from a rural background meant that they would really go back to rural areas and serve in underserved areas, I think that would be a good factor to consider in admissions to medical school.
