When we hit a rock in the stream our reaction is to get jolted and go oh my goodness what is this why is this here I'm just trying to get from A to B. mindfulness is observing what shows up from a place of non-judgment, not attachment. You are gonna practice approaching at your intrusive thoughts or your emotions if you're having other emotions like strong waves of guilt or shame or sadness you're gonna notice the obstacle or the object be non- judgemental.
