The Long-Term Effects of Noise Exposure on Children's Hearing
Dr. Hamid Jalilian is a professor at UC Irvine and an expert in the problems of the ear. He's especially concerned with the long-term damage that noise exposure can do to children's ears. We're born with about 3,000 or so of these so-called inner hair cells which are the main ones that do the function of hearing. Damage that occurs to those cells is permanent.
