The Paradox of Repetition in Psychoanalysis
The familiar is familiar because of repetition and because of your expectations. And then one moment when it becomes defamiliarized, you don't know where to stand. The very routine and every day suddenly becomes well, estranged, weird and unfamiliar. So I'm going to suggest that we are on the track of this thing. This thing is the unconscious. We have to sneak up on it.
