David: I'm gracious of my rebellion and my sin is always before me against you. David's sin wasn't a distant, blurry recollection that he could conveniently lock away into some mental closet. The evidence of his treachery was right in front of him, and he couldn't banish the image by himself. He intentionally turned his back on God to fulfill his own selfish desires.
