The Devil's Visit to the Mount Pelier Lodge
According to legend, the Hellfire Club always kept one chair empty at their meetings so that it might be filled by Satan. There's a story that tells us of a clergyman who climbed to the top of Mount Pelier in order to confront the club members and found them eating with a large black cat. In those last two stories, the devil was an unwelcome visitor who is unmasked or outwitted by various Hellfire members. But there's a whole other set of stories that involves the club summoning the devil and inviting him to their table.
