The scientific method as understood by the scientific community for the last 300 years is very clear on this. Carl Sagan, who was an empiricist, and one of our top scientists in the 20th century, he talked about this specifically. The bigger the leap that you're asking people to make, the more evidence you have to have, that is actually the thing that's going to happen. As venture capitalists, aren't we always extrapolating or predicting things that could emerge based on new technologies? You may have noticed that we're wrong a lot.
