The Sack of Roman Cities in Byzantine History

The Romans had surrendered and there was no formal resistance anymore. The two imperial palaces were left in good condition and those inside were protected. Nikita's Coniartes is the only source who mentions the crimes perpetrated against the Roman people. He says that priests were robbed and churches ransacked.
