Philadelphia's Yellow Fever
Dr. Benjamin Rush was called to the home of another doctor who lived near the wharf where refugees from Sondamong had arrived in 1793. His young daughter was suffering from a high fever, she was also jaundiced and vomiting blood Just two days later, the girl died. Over the next two weeks, Dr. Rush visited more patients who shared common symptoms But at first, he believed that they all had been struck by an ordinary seasonal fever which could be common in Philadelphia.
