Dig In, Don't Wait
We used to have this expression, two, four, six, eight, dig in, don't wait. What it tells you is that you've got a sort of little buffet and the football team are really hungry. The dig in means go on, help yourself, don’t wait for me,. You're hungry, just dig in and eat what you can, when they can be eaten very quickly. Usually, if there's a big gang of people, well then, yes, everybody will dig in. So, usually, it's about eating food with great enthusiasm.
