The Road to Damascus
As a teenager, I was asking what I call the big questions in life. Who am I? Why am I here? What is the meaning of my existence? And as I contemplated my own death and the inevitability of the eventual death of the universe itself, it seemed to me that everything is meaningless. So I understood the darkness and the despair that I later learned was so aptly described by French existentialist philosophers. That was a transformative moment, very much a Damascus road moment for me, and I've never looked back since then.
