I can relate to this a little bit even though I've never worked at a Chinese led tech company. In Quebec French Canada in Montreal Montreal is a bilingual city but you know a lot of people speak French there. People would just like speak to French if they are with another francophone because that's where they're comfortable in. But if you're an English speaker and you like walked up to them like if I walked up to my coworkers who are French they were just immediately like see you coming and switch to English.
