Coming out of the pandemic, you had this dual supply and demand shock where we've all been at home for three years. The Fed was clearly too slow to start raising rates. It required them to raise interest rates faster than they might otherwise have. So I don't think there was no choice. You cannot have runaway inflation. That means turning off the spigot, taking away the punch bowl.
