Will the Renminbi Depreciate?

The renminbi will continue to appreciate because the whole process of rebalancing requires a reversal of those hidden transfers that I mentioned before. The rumors within Beijing are that this talk is in part a way for the financial regulators to try to force more rapid reform within the financial sector. It would be very risky and very dangerous for China to open up its capital account.
