The Dutch, the European Nation That Spreaded Coffee
In 1616, the Dutch merchant Peter van den Brucker managed to secure coffee beans from Yemen. He brought them back to the Netherlands where they were studied and then carefully grown in the Amsterdam botanical gardens. Java was for time the world's biggest exporter of coffee. It had ideal conditions for growing coffee plants, which can only really be cultivated between the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer.
