Tillex Project - A Spirituality Attuned to the Secular Age
Many readers of Tillex, especially African American scholars and pastors, saw in this an articulation of divine presence that could easily be mapped onto black church and black religious realities. Many saw the possibilities of a spirituality that promised more dexterity and flexibility than normally associated with the symbolic economies of Christian faith. He offered a form of faith in translation that also presented opportunities for liberationists to envisage forms of faith that would speak to present moments of struggle. While I do not share his ontology and find his configuration of the subject that helpful at this moment, he does offer us great wisdom in how to attend to the relevatory density of aesthetic creation and cultural resistance.
