The Importance of Reason in Social Status

I'm not sure if they would say that reason is used to reach more accurate beliefs, which is what Spurber and Mercier say about the intellectualist view. I do wonder how they'd feel about this. So all they're saying is that reason is primarily used to evaluate the justifications of others. That could be utilized self-servingly to figure out how to get to the top of your dominance hierarchy talking in terms of Peterson.
