The Core Assumption That the Allies Are Not Doing Nothing
The Allies take with them into Italy, isn't it? And it's the core assumption they take with them to France. We've set overlord for May. That's that's the big E. But here we are in August and there is a backlog of 44,000 allied vehicles waiting to come to Italy which can't get there as air forces have priority. They're not thinking about it like that. They're thinking we have to keep going because we're here. It would be wrong for our forces to sit on their arses till May doing nothing in the Mediterranean when we could do something. The psychological advantage of Rome is great but it's almost in a funny sort of way
