Heraclitus and the Mysteries

Early philosophy in Italy was very interlinked with mystic ideas and practice. Heraclitus is from Ephesus, a Greek city in the Achaemenid Empire. In Fragment 40 he tells us that the mysteries current among men initiate them into impiety. He's not denying that the holy exists or the gods merely that it isn't found where people think it is.
