Tracy: My anxiety kept me really focused on this future. I knew if we did everything we could, that we had a very strong possibility that he would be just fine. She says researchers have found empirical evidence of the same phenomenon among adult patients with heart failure. Patients who had higher levels of anxiety and depressed mood were more likely to receive a transplant.

Anxiety is an uncomfortable emotion, which is why most of us try to avoid it. But psychologist Tracy Dennis-Tiwary says our anxiety is also trying to tell us something. This week, we explore how we can interpret those messages and manage the intense discomfort these feelings can generate.
